Alberta: Introduces The Land Assembly Project Area Act

The purpose of The Land Assembly Project Area Act is to ensure landowners are well-informed and treated fairly, while allowing the Alberta government to plan for future development of transportation utility corridors and projects related to the conservation or management of water. While the majority of provisions in Bill 19 are similar to those in the Restricted Development Area (RDA) section of the Government Organization Act, the RDA legislation was intended for environmental purposes and had to be amended specifically to be used for the Edmonton and Calgary transportation utility corridors. After a thorough review, government concluded that new legislation should be developed to designate land for future large-scale infrastructure projects and to regulate development within an approved project area.
