Consultant selected to conduct stakeholder survey under rail freight service review

The rail freight service review is being conducted in two phases. Phase 1, which is currently underway, consists of analytical work to achieve a better understanding of the state of the rail service. As part of this phase, NRG Research Group will survey shippers, terminal operators (including transloaders), port authorities, and shipping lines about their views on railway service and the performance of the rail-based logistics chain. The survey will allow stakeholders to provide their views on key service concerns and potential solutions. Following the contract award, NRG Research Group will hold an initial meeting with officials and begin its work immediately. It is expected that this project will be completed by the end of September 2009. The other three Phase 1 projects should all be completed by late October 2009.
